Slocum captures Liberty League honors at championships
September 23, 2004
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Hobart junior Drew Slocum (University School/Milwaukee, Wis.) earned second-team All-Liberty League honors thanks to a ninth place finish in the 2004 Liberty League Championship Tournament. The Statesmen finished last in the seven-team field.
Slocum carded a three over par 75 on the Saratoga State Park Course. He posted Hobart’s low round for the seventh consecutive tournament dating back to this past spring’s Elmira Invitational. Slocum lowered his team-leading scoring average to 77.67.
Junior Matt Johannessen (Kent School/Litchfield, Conn.) was second for the Statesmen, tied for 26th place with a round of 80.
The event also served as a qualifier for the 2004 ECAC Championships with a total of 15 teams competing for five spots. Hobart (320) finished in 12th place in the qualifier standings, topping the teams from Potsdam (324), Elmira (330), and Hartwick (339).
St. John Fisher finished first in the ECAC Qualifier standings with a team score of 293, just ahead of second place, and Liberty League Champion, Hamilton (297).
Hobart returns to action at 1:30 p.m., on Oct. 3, when it hosts the annual Hobart Invitational at the Clifton Springs Country Club.
