Slocum wins Hamilton Spring Invitational

Drew Slocum

April 7, 2004

CLINTON, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore Drew Slocum (University School/Milwaukee, Wis.) birdied the first playoff hole to capture individual medalist honors in the season-opening Hamilton Spring Invitational at the Skenandoa Golf Club today. The Statesmen finished in a tie for third place of 10 teams with a score of 322. Hamilton College carded a low score of 310 to earn the top spot, while St. Lawrence finished the day 10 strokes back for second place.

Carding a career-best 74 in the first 18 holes, Slocum needed just one hole to earn his second medal of the 2003-04 season. He earned a medal in the Hobart Invitational this past fall. Junior Matt Coté (Trinity Pawling School/Montreal, Quebec) also turned in a season-best performance, heading into the clubhouse with a five-over 77 for sixth place in the 58-person field.

Senior Kyle Hannes (Gilmour Academy/Kenosha, Wis.) turned in a score of 84 to capture 21st place, while sophomores Matt Johannessen (Kent School/Litchfield, Conn.) and Sean Hotchkiss (Falmouth/Falmouth, Maine) rounded out the Statesmen’s top fives with an 85 and 86, respectively.

Hobart hits the links again on April 18-19, at the Palamountain Invitational in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
