GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College ice hockey team scored a pair of goals in the third period to get past visiting SUNY Brockport at The Cooler this afternoon 3-2. Three different players scored for the 15th-ranked Statesmen as they notched their seventh straight victory over the Golden Eagles.

After a first period that featured few scoring opportunities, HobarT (4-1-2) got on the board 4:35 into the second session when junior Matt Garman (Wexford, Pa.) snuck the puck past Brockport’s Andy Reynolds (Vicksburg, Mich.) for his first goal of the year. Garman was assisted by sophomore forward Adam Scott (Manchester, Mass.) and junior defenseman Will Bodine (North Massapequa, N.Y.).

Less than four minutes later senior Mark Digby (Fulton, N.Y.) tied the score with his 11th tally of the season off assists from Brian Bauman (Matawan, N.J.) and Chris Koras (Toronto, Ontario). The Golden Eagles (3-5-1) nearly made it 2-1 later in the period on a two-on-one breakaway, but Hobart goaltender Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, N.H.) made a nice grab to keep it even headed into the final stanza.

In the final minute of a five-on-three power play, Bodine unleashed a slap shot from just inside the blue line off of a pass from sophomore Mike Polsonetti (Lynn, Mass.) to give the Statesmen the lead for good with 19:01 left to play.

The Hobart penalty kill continued its outstanding effort throughout the third period, holding Brockport to just three shots during nine minutes of penalties. With 4:16 left in the period sophomore Mike Manos (North Andover, Mass.) gave the Statesmen a two-goal cushion and what proved to be the game winner, beating a Brockport defenseman with some nifty stick work and sliding the puck low into the right corner of the net.

Brian Sargent tried to make things interesting with an unassisted score at 19:27, but Hobart held on for the 3-2 victory.

The Statesmen outshot the Golden Eagles 34-19 and held Brockport to just four shots and no goals on seven power-play opportunities. Hobart was 1-5 on the power play.

Between the pipes Papaevagelou made 17 saves to remain unbeaten on the year. Reynolds turned in a strong performance for Brockport, stopping 31 shots.

The Statesmen hit the road again on Nov. 24, traveling to Williams College. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
