GENEVA, N.Y.—Riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak, the Hobart College hockey team moved up to No. 8 in the latest edition of the USCHO.com Division III poll, the highest ranking in the program’s 28 varsity seasons.
Also announced today, senior forward Ed Poirier (Methuen, Mass.) was named the ECAC West Player of the Week.
On Feb. 22, 2004, Hobart debuted at No. 14, marking the first national ranking for the Statesmen hockey team. Hobart was ranked as high as ninth during the 2003-04 season. Last season, the Statesmen climbed as high as No. 11 after their 5-2 upset over then top-ranked Manhattanville on Jan. 22, 2005.
On Dec. 2, Poirier tied the Hobart single game record with four assists in a 7-1 victory over visiting Neumann. The following afternoon, he added two more assists in a 6-4 win over Lebanon Valley.
Hobart (8-2-0) returns to action at 4 p.m. on Dec. 10 when the Statesmen host the Amherst Lord Jeffs (3-2-0) in a non-conference match at The Cooler.
