GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the Hobart College hockey team were honored by the ECAC West league office this afternoon. First-year netminder Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) and junior forward Mike McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) were selected as the Goaltender of the Week and the Player of the Week, respectively, for their stellar play during the week ending Jan. 22. The Statesmen are ranked sixth in the latest edition of the USCHO.com Division III nation poll, up one spot from last week.

In two games against Manhattanville’s potent offense (5th in the nation, 4.94 gpg), Longo held the Valiants to three and two goals below their scoring average. On Jan. 20, he made a season-high 36 saves, including a number of point-blank stops, in a 2-1 loss. The following afternoon, Longo finished the contest with 30 saves, his third-highest total of the season, as Hobart edged Manhattanville 5-3. He leads the nation in save percentage (.944) and ranks third in goals against average (1.62).

On Jan. 21, McCarthy led the offensive charge with two points (1-1) against the Valiants. He assisted on the game-winner and rounded out the scoring with a third period insurance goal. McCarthy has registered two points in three of the past four games, raising his season total to 20 points (7-13).

Hobart (13-4-0, 4-3-0 ECAC West) returns to action at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28, when the Statesmen travel to conference rival Elmira (7-7-2, 1-5-1 ECAC West). Earlier this season, Hobart defeated the Soaring Eagles 7-5 at the Cooler.
