GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior defenseman Stephen Mitacek (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior forward Edward Poirier (Methuen, Mass.) earned spots on the 2004-05 ECAC Men’s West All-Conference Hockey Teams in a vote of the league’s coaches. Mitacek captured first-team honors, while Poirier garnered second-team recognition.
Part of the Statesmen’s top defensive pair for the past two seasons, Mitacek captained this year’s squad, playing in all but one game and compiling 10 points on one goal and nine assists. His nine helpers ranked third on the team. A second-team honoree in 2002-03, Mitacek posted a career-high three assists against Cortland last season. For his career, he has played in 101 games, missing just three during his four years, and racked up five goals and 39 assists for 44 points.
Poirier led the Hobart offense all season, finishing with a team-high 22 points (11-11). A fast and dynamic forward, he scored at least one point in 16 of the 24 games in which he played, tallying a season-high three points (2-1) in a win over Wentworth. For his career, Poirier has played in 70 games, scoring 29 goals and adding 30 assists for 59 points.
The Statesmen finished the year 14-6-4, establishing a high-water mark with a .667 winning percentage. Ranked among the top-15 teams in the nation throughout much of the season, Hobart climbed as high as 11th in the polls after toppling then No. 1 and eventual conference champion Manhattanville, 5-2 at The Cooler.
