Papaevagelou grabs ECAC West weekly award

November 2 , 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College first-year goaltender Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, N.H.) was named the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference West Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week this afternoon.

Making his first start between the pipes for the Statesmen, Papaevagelou made 22 stops and posted a 4-0 shutout against Buffalo State in the Buffalo State All-Sport Invitational this past weekend. He helped shut down the Bengals power play, holding them scoreless on nine opportunities.

The 12th-ranked Statesmen opened the 2004-05 season by capturing the Buffalo State All-Sport Invitational title for the second time in three years. Hobart tied Fredonia 3-3 on Friday—they edged the Blue Devils in the shootout for tournament purposes—and downed the Bengals the following evening.

The Statesmen return to the ice on Nov. 5, traveling to ECAC West rival and seventh-ranked RIT for a rematch of the 2004 conference championship game that Hobart won 3-1 in Geneva. The puck will drop at 7 p.m., as the Statesmen look to earn their first win in Ritter Arena since 1992.
