ASTON, Pa.—Junior forward Mike McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 3:07 into overtime to lift the seventh-ranked Hobart hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Neumann and clinch a spot in the ECAC West Playoffs this evening. Classmate Jonathan Swift (Andover, Mass.) was credited with the assist on the game-winner.

The Statesmen (18-6-0, 9-5-0) found themselves in an early 2-0 hole, but roared back with a pair of goals 10 seconds apart in the final two minutes of the first period to tie the contest. Junior Adam Scott (Manchester, Mass.) logged the first tally at the 18:54 mark off an assist from senior Will Bodine (North Massapequa, N.Y.). With the goal light barely slowed from its first workout, sophomore Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.) lit the lamp again, assisted by sophomore Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.).

The contest remained tied through the second and third periods.

Hobart outshot the Knights (14-9-1) 25-20.

First-year goalie Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) earned the win with 18 saves.

Hobart will close out the regular season at Neumann at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25.
