Statesmen hockey moves up in national rankings
November 30 , 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team moved up a spot to 14th in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll. Middlebury College sits atop the poll for the fifth consecutive week.
The Statesmen ran their unbeaten streak to five games, tying Williams College 2-2 at Lansing Chapman Rink. Falling behind early in the first period, junior defenseman Jeff Bostic (Whitesboro, N.Y.) tallied his first goal of the year off an assist from senior Jesse Desper (West Kennebunk, Maine).
Bostic came through again with 4:50 left in the third period with an assist to senior forward Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) for the game-tying goal. Junior William Brame (West Hartford, Conn.) also provided an assist on the score.
First-years Andrew Eaton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, N.H.) combined for 21 saves as Hobart outshot Williams 44-23 for the contest.
The Statesmen offense is led by junior Edward Poirier (Methuen, Mass.) with six points (3-3). Papaevagelou has seen the majority of minutes in goal for Hobart. A starter in five games, he is unbeaten and leads the league in goals against average (2.03) and ranks third in save percentage (.920).
The Statesmen (4-1-3) resume ECAC West play on Dec. 3, hosting eighth-ranked RIT at 7 p.m. at “The Cooler.”
Tickets are $2 for adults, $1 for children. Fans are encouraged to arrive early. No more than 1000 tickets will be sold for each game at The Cooler. Also, no outside drink containers or backpacks will be allowed into the Geneva Recreation Complex.
