MINNEAPOLIS—Two student-athletes on the Hobart College hockey team were recently named to the All-USCHO.com teams. Senior defenseman Greg Gallagher (Framingham, Mass.) represented the Statesmen on the East second-team, while first-year goaltender Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) received honorable mention for the East All-Rookie Team.
Gallagher is just the second Hobart hockey player to be named to the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) East All-America teams. A two-time All-ECAC West selection and ECAC West All-Academic pick, Gallagher solidified the blue line with his versatile play. A team captain, he tied for the ECAC West lead and was 15th in the nation in points by a defenseman (5-18-23). Gallagher earned the ECAC West Player of the Week award for his season-high four points in a 7-5 victory over Elmira. A four-year starter, he recorded 64 points, including 50 assists, in 102 career games.
In his first season as the Statesmen backstop, Longo anchored the Hobart defense that posted a season record low 2.52 goals against average. A three-time ECAC Rookie of the Week, he led the ECAC West and was sixth in the nation in save percentage (.928), while ranking second in the conference and 11th in the nation in goals against average (2.19). Longo broke the program single-season records for save percentage and goals against average. He also holds the Hobart season and career records for shutouts with three. Longo matched his season-high in saves (38) at Norwich and against St. Norbert in the NCAA quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
Under the leadership of AHCA Coach of the Year finalist Mark Taylor, Hobart posted a 20-8-0 record, marking the most successful campaign in the program’s 28 varsity seasons. The Statesmen upset perennial powerhouse Norwich University 3-1 in the NCAA quarterfinal round, earning the Statesmen’s first NCAA Tournament victory and trip to the national semifinals, where St. Norbert needed overtime to sneak past Hobart, 5-4.
