November 4, 2006

GENEVA, N.Y.—The No.6 Hobart College ice hockey team fell to No. 5 Manhattanville 4-1 in ECAC West League action this afternoon. The Statesmen drop to 1-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play, while the Valiants improve to 4-0-0 and 2-0-0 in the conference.

Mahattanville took an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a goal by senior Scott Goheen (Innisfil, Ont.), assisted by first-year AJ Mikkelsen (Chestermere, Alta.) and junior Jason Murfitt (Ottawa, Ont.). Hobart evened the game at 1-1 in the 19th minute after junior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) connected with the back of the net after being set up by senior Mike Polsonetti (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.). The teams took the 1-1 tie into the second period.

Manhattanville first-year Arlen Marshall (Quill Lake, Sask.) scored what would become the game-winner in the fifth minute of the second period, assisted by sophomore Jacob Cline (Covington, Ga.) and first-year Phil Hotarek (Foster City, Calif.). Seniors Troy Maleyko (Belle River, Ont.) and Justin Rohr (Lloydminster, Alta.) each added insurance goals for the Valiants.

Junior goalkeeper Dimitri Papaevagelou (Winham, N.H.) tallied 38 saves for the Statesmen, while senior Andrew Gallant (Summerside, P.E.I.) stopped 31 shots for Manhattanville.

Hobart will be back in action on Nov. 11 when it travels to Elmira for an ECAC West game at 7 p.m.
