Hobart hockey downs Wentworth, 6-3

GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior Conor Bradley (West Hartford, Conn.) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the Hobart College hockey team past Wentworth tonight, 6-3. The Statesmen improve to 3-2-0 overall, while the Leopards drop to 3-2-1.

Hobart opened the scoring just over a minute into the game. Junior Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.) netted his second goal of the season, assisted by Bradley and first-year Aleksey Koval (Kiev, Ukraine). Bradley scored his first goal of the night less than three minutes later, following passes from Houde and senior captain Mike Polsonetti (Lynn, Mass.). The Leopards cut the lead to one after sophomore Matt Gilman (Groveland, Mass.) tallied at the 9:09 mark, assisted by classmate Derek Rupert (Louisville, N.Y.).

Wentworth regrouped and took a 3-2 lead early in the second period, following two quick goals by senior Ryan Singer (Kamloops, B.C.) and junior Matt Koehler (Pembroke, Mass.). Hobart’s Koval evened the game at 3-3 in the 15th minute of the second period, with Bradley and first-year Dan Miller (Massena, N.Y.) recording the helpers.

The Statemen took control in the third period, netting three unanswered goals. First-year Bobby Cahill (Famington Hills, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate goal, netting the game-winner at 6:37. Bradley followed a few minutes later with his second goal of the day, while sophomore Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added an insurance score at 16:01. Sophomores Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) and Andrew Brennan (Milford, Mass.) both tallied two assists in the third period, while junior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Miller each added one.

Sophomore goalkeeper Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) recorded the win, stopping 13 shots. Junior Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, N.H.) recorded 11 saves for Hobart before leaving the game with an injury, while first-year Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) tallied 46 saves for the Leopards.

Eleventh-ranked Hobart will be back in action Nov. 18 when it hosts fourth-ranked Oswego (8-0-1) at 4 p.m. in The Cooler.
