Hockey Statesmen to close out '06, open '07

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart hockey team will play the Statesmen's final contest of 2006 and the first of 2007 when the team travels to Middlebury, Vt., for the Holiday Classic.
The Statesmen (6-2-2) will tangle with Trinity (Conn.) College on Dec. 31. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kenyon Arena. Host Middlebury (5-2-0) will take on St. Anselm (3-2-1) at 4 p.m. The consolation game begins the following afternoon at 1 p.m. with the championship match to follow at 4 p.m.
Both Hobart games can be heard live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) and online at WEOS.org.
The Statesmen are ranked 10th in the nation in the latest USCHO.com poll. A pair of seniors rank in the top 40 in the nation in scoring. Defenseman Mike Polsonetti (Lynn, Mass.) leads the team with 16 points (6-10-16) and ranks second in the country in points per game by a defenseman. Forward Conor Bradley (West Hartford, Conn.) sports a team-high eight goals to go with seven assists.
In goal, sophomore Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) boasts a .945 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average. He is second in the nation in save percentage and eighth in goals against average.
Trinity comes into the New Year's Eve showdown with a 2-3-1 overall record. The Bantams are 2-1-0 in their last three games, but are looking to rebound from a 7-2 loss to Babson on Dec. 2.
Hobart is playing for the first time in three weeks, while Trinity will be stepping on the ice following a four-week layoff.
