Statesmen rank 2nd in ECAC poll

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart ice hockey team is ranked second in the ECAC Men’s West Hockey League preseason poll, released earlier today. The Statesmen share the No. 2 spot with Utica, while Elmira ranks first on the list.
Hobart finished the 2005-06 regular season as the second-place team in the conference, posting a 20-8-0 overall record and a 10-5-0 mark in the ECAC West. The Statesmen also earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years, where they advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in the program’s history.
Hobart is ranked sixth in the nation in the USCHO.com preseason p1oll, and will open its season on Oct. 28 when it hosts Potsdam for a non-league game at 4 p.m. The Statesmen will play their first ECAC West match on Nov. 3 when they travel to Utica.
