GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College student-athletes were recently honored by the ECAC for their role in leading the ice hockey team to a 2-0-1 record during the semester break. Junior Brian Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) earned ECAC West Player of the Week honors, while sophomore netminder Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) was tabbed Goaltender of the Week.
Cibelli was named the MVP of the Middlebury Holiday Classic after he scored two power-play goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in Hobart’s 5-2 victory over Trinity (Conn.) in the first round on Dec. 31. The following afternoon, he registered a goal and an assist as the Statesmen tied Middlebury, 3-3, in the championship game.
Longo collected 84 saves in three games last week. He recorded 24 saves in the win over Trinity, 29 saves against Middlebury, and made 31 stops in a 6-3 victory over Geneseo on Jan. 6. Currently, Longo ranks fifth in the nation and second in the ECAC West in save percentage (.935), and eighth in the country and second in the league in goals against average (2.04). He owns a 5-1-3 record in net.
Hobart (9-2-3) is ranked eighth in Division III by USCHO.com, and will take a program-record 11-game unbeaten streak into Saturday’s game against Brockport. The Statesmen will meet the Golden Eagles (5-6-5) in The Cooler at 4 p.m. |
