6 hockey Statesmen earn All-Academic honor

GENEVA, N.Y.—Six Hobart College ice hockey student-athletes were recently named to the 2007 ECAC Men’s West All-Academic Team. To earn a spot on the team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0, and have completed at least one academic year. Additionally, the recipient must have competed in at least half of his team’s games during the 2006-07 season.
The following Statesmen have been named to the All-Academic Team:
• Senior Mike Manos (North Andover, Mass.), economics and architecture double major
• Junior Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.), economics major
• Sophomore Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.), undeclared
• Sophomore Kirk Golden (Vail, Colo.), undeclared
• Sophomore Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.), political science major
• Sophomore Michael Steiner (Shaker Heights, Ohio), undeclared
Together these student-athletes helped lead Hobart to a 13-8-5 record for the program’s fifth consecutive winning season. The Statesmen went unbeaten in non-conference play for the first time in the program’s history, and registered a record 13-game unbeaten streak during the course of the season.
