#10 Hobart falls to #6 Neumann

January 26, 2007

GENEVA, N.Y.—The tenth-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team fell to sixth-ranked Neumann College 3-0 in an ECAC West contest tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen slip to 10-4-4 overall and 2-4-2 in league play, while the Knights improve to 14-2-4 overall and 6-1-3 in the ECAC West.

There was little scoring in tonight’s hard-fought match up between two of Division III’s top teams. Neumann’s Mike Hedden (St. Catherines, Ontario) netted the game-winning goal on a power play at 13:08 in the first period, and later added an assist on teammate Kyle Casey’s (Stratford, Ontario) empty net goal in the third. Matt Ward (Kemptville, Ontario) and Neil Trimm (Westmeath, Ontario) each recorded two assists for the Knights.

The Knights tallied again in the second period, with Mark Van Vliet (Dorchester, Ontario) recording the goal off assists from Ward and Mike Gooch (Mantua, N.J.).

Both teams had opportunities to score, as Neumann held just a slight advantage over Hobart in shots-on-goal, 35-32.

Goalkeeper Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) made 32 stops for the Statesmen. Mike Collichio (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded the win for the Knights, also collecting 32 saves.

Hobart and Neumann will face off again tomorrow at 4 p.m. in The Cooler.
