February 21, 2007
GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Shawn Houde (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Keith Longo (Hopedale, Mass.) were honored by the ECAC West this week after leading the Statesmen ice hockey team to a victory over Utica last Saturday. Houde was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week, while Longo was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Houde sparked Hobart’s offense against Utica, scoring two goals in the 5-1 win. He put the Statesmen on the board at 9:16 in the first period, and then added an insurance goal on a power play in the second. Houde, a forward, has a team-high 14 goals this season.
A goaltender, Longo collected 34 saves and allowed just one goal against the Pioneers on Saturday. He held Utica scoreless for over 53 minutes, and recorded a .971 save percentage on the way to his seventh win of the season.
The 13th-ranked Statesmen (13-7-5) will be in action at Elmira tonight at 7 p.m. for the first round of the ECAC West playoffs. The winner of tonight’s game will travel to Manhattanville for the semifinal round on Feb. 24.
