GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Dimitri Papaevagelou (Windham, N.H.) and senior Mike McCarthy (Milford, Mass.) were recognized by the ECAC West for their roles in leading the Statesmen ice hockey team to a 1-1-0 mark against conference rival Elmira last weekend. Papaevagelou was named the ECAC West Goaltender of the Week, while McCarthy was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Papaevagelou collected 39 saves and allowed just two goals in a 7-2 win over the Soaring Eagles on Feb. 10. He picked up his fourth win of the season after holding Elmira scoreless for over 42 minutes, earning a .951 save percentage along the way.
A forward, McCarthy led the Hobart offense against Elmira, totaling two goals and an assist in its win. He put the Statesmen on the board just 48 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. McCarthy tallied again at the start of the second period, before adding a helper on Hobart’s sixth goal of the night.
The Statesmen (12-6-5, 4-6-3 ECAC West) hold steady as the 12th-ranked team in the country, and will be in action again this weekend in two league contests against Utica (12-7-3, 6-4-3 ECAC West). On Feb. 17 Hobart will host the Pioneers for its last regular season game in the open-air Cooler, which is set to be enclosed before the start of the 2007-08 season. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Fans unable to attend the game can listen live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) or log on to web.hws.edu/statesmen/hockey/schedule.asp and click on the live coverage link.
