Statesmen defeat Red Dragons, 5-2

CORTLAND, N.Y.--The Hobart College ice hockey team defeated SUNY Cortland 5-2 in non-league action tonight. The Statesmen improve to 9-2-3 overall, while the Red Dragons drop to 5-8-1.

Senior Aaron Laycock (Barrie, Ontario), junior Ted Brzek (Duxbury, Mass.), and first-year Gregory Alberti (Bernardsville, N.J.) led the Hobart scoring with a goal and an assist each, while seniors Mike McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) and Jonathan Swift (Andover, Mass.) both added two assists.

Sophomore Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) recorded the game-winning goal on a power play less than a minute into the third period, assisted by Swift and Brzek. Classmate Kirk Golden (Vail, Colo.) also tallied in the win.

Junior goalkeeper Trevor Pieri (Needham, Mass.) recorded 19 saves to pick up his second win of the season.

Eighth-ranked Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 13 when it hosts SUNY Brockport in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
