Statesmen hockey captains announced

R.C. Schmidt

Carl Michaelson

May 20, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Ice Hockey Coach Mark Taylor has announced that junior defenseman Carl Michaelson (Hudson, Quebec), junior forward R.C. Schmidt (Buxton, Maine), and sophomore forward Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) will serve as captains for the 2003-04 season.

Michaelson played in 21 games for Hobart during the 2002-03 season, recording four goals and seven assists. Second among all defensemen in scoring, he notched a season-high two points twice during the year.

Schmidt has been a solid forward for the Statesmen the previous two seasons. Despite missing some games, he was fourth on the team in scoring with eight goals and 10 assists. He notched at least a point in 13 games this season.

Levey led all Statesmen with 18 goals and 14 assists in the 2002-03 campaign, earning ECAC West Player of the Week honors three times. Scoring at least one point in all but four games, he netted his second career hat trick in a win over Neumann College. One of the top scorers in the conference, Levey earned first-team All-ECAC West honors this season.

The Statesmen ended the 2002-03 season with a 14-10-2 record, the most wins since 1995, and just one shy of surpassing the all-time mark. Sweeping the season series against Elmira for the first time in the program’s history, Hobart compiled a 4-5-1 conference record to earn a spot in the ECAC West playoffs.
