Three Statesmen earn ECAC West Honors

26-01-2002

GENEVA, N.Y. -The Eastern College Athletic Conference has recognized three Hobart College hockey players for their play in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. Sophomore forward Chris Doolan (Hill School/Lyndell, Pa.) was named the ECAC West Player of the Week, first-year Craig Levey (Mississauga Chargers/Mississauga, Ontario) was named the league's Rookie of the Week, while first-year goaltender Adam Lavelle (Bridgton Academy/Chelmsford, Mass.) earned a spot on the Honor Roll.

Doolan recorded five points in two games for Hobart last week. The sophomore scored the game-winning goal and registered two assists in the Statesmen's 6-1 win at Neumann on Jan. 25. The following night at Manhattanville, Doolan assisted on two more goals in Hobart's 4-3 loss to the Valiants. His five-point weekend boosted him into third place on the Statesmen's scoring list this season. He has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 18 games this season.

Levey assisted on a goal against Neumann and scored his team-leading fourth power-play goal against Manhattanville. The first-year is second on the team in scoring with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points. Levey has earned the league's Rookie of the Week award four times this season.

Lavelle stopped 24-of-25 shots against Neumann to halt Hobart's five-game skid. In his first season the goaltender has started 18 of the Statesmen's 19 games, while posting a save percentage of .897 and a goals against average of 3.93. Lavelle's seven wins are the most by a Hobart goalie in a season since Gabe Halleus '93 also won seven during the 1992-93 campaign. The first-year is just two wins shy of the Statesmen's single-season record of nine set by Mike Silva '89 in the 1988-89 season.

Hobart (7-12-0, 2-2-0 ECAC West) closes out their eight-game road trip with a contest against second-ranked RIT on Feb. 1. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
