May 12, 2004 GENEVA, N.Y.The Hobart College ice hockey team placed seven players on the 2004 ECAC West Ice Hockey All-Academic Team announced by ECAC Commissioner Phil Buttafuoco. The Statesmen tied both Manhattanville College and Utica College with the most players represented. To earn a place on the ECAC West All-Academic squad a player must have completed at least one academic year, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.00, and have competed in at least half of his teams contests during the season. Juniors Tyler Dufour (Whistler, British Columbia), Stephen Mitacek (Wantagh, N.Y.), and Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) and sophomores Colby McVey (Chicago, Ill.), Lee Carrier (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Matthew Garman (Wexford, Pa.), and Will Brame (West Hartford, Conn.) represented Hobart. The Statesmen had a historic season, winning their first ECAC West regular season title with a best ever league record of 7-2-1. They also captured the ECAC West Tournament championship, earning the programs first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Falling to national runner-up Norwich University, Hobart closed out its season with a 15-8-5 record, the best winning percentage (.625) in the programs 26 varsity seasons. This years club also matched the school record for wins in a season, established by the first Statesmen hockey team in 1978-79 (15-16-1). |
