November 8, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.The Hobart College hockey team had little trouble earning its first ECAC West win of the season, defeating conference foe Neumann College 10-1 at the Geneva Recreation Complex. Sophomore forward Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) paced the Statesmen with his second career hat trick. Levey opened the scoring just 2:09 into the contest. Sophomore forward Andy Boschetto (Brookfield, Conn.), junior forward R.C. Schmidt (Buxton, Maine), and sophomore forward Andy Kasprzak (Farmington, Conn.) followed with tallies of their own to send Hobart into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead. Boschetto finished with a goal and four assists. The second period was a near replay of the first. This time first-year defenseman Will Bodine (North Massapequa, N.Y.), first-year wing Lee Carrier (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), and junior defenseman Carl Michaelson (Hudson, Quebec) joined Levey in the scoring frenzy. The Statesmen led 9-0 in the third period before Jeremy Bechdel (Indianapolis, Ind.) broke up the shutout with the Knights lone goal. Sophomore Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) and first-year Thomas Kelliher (Rochester, N.Y.) combined for 13 saves for Hobart, while junior Matt Saur (Syracuse, N.Y.) and sophomore Mark Wilkins (Langhorne, Pa.) combined for 43 saves. Hobart improved to 3-1-0, 1-0-0 in the ECAC West, while Neumann fell to 0-5-0, 0-1-0. The Statesmen return to action at 4 p.m., on Nov. 9, when the Manhattanville Valliants visits Geneva. Hobart and Manhattanville split their regular season meetings last season with the Statesmen winning 7-0 at home. |
