November 5, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.A trio of Hobart College hockey players earned recognition from the Eastern College Athletic Conference this week after the Statesmen were victorious at the Buffalo State Invitational. Junior R.C. Schmidt (West Point/Buxton, Maine) and first-year Colby McVey (Tabor Academy/Chicago, Ill.) were named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while sophomore Adam Lavelle (Bridgton Academy/Chelmsford, Mass.) garnered Goaltender of the Week honors for Hobart. The Statesmen improved to 2-1 for the season this past weekend after beating Fredonia 3-2 and Buffalo State 4-2 to take the overall title. Schmidt recorded his first goal and assist of the 2002-03 season in Hobarts win over Buffalo State. He helped put the Statesmen up 1-0, assisting on the first goal of the game. With the game knotted at two, Schmidt netted the game winner late in the first period to assure Hobart the tournaments title. McVey was a key component for the Statesmen offense, registering three assists in two games. He earned his first collegiate point against Fredonia, assisting on the game-winning goal. McVey posted two more assists the following afternoon in Hobarts victory over the Bengals. With three points on his three assists, McVey leads the team in points. Lavelle continued his strong play, making a combined 57 saves on 61 shots for a .934 save percentage on the weekend. In three games he has grabbed 82 saves for a .911 save percentage. The Statesmen open conference play this weekend, hosting Neumann on Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., and Manhattanville on Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. |
