Lavelle, Levey collect ECAC West honors

February 11, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College juniors Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) were named the ECAC West Men’s Hockey Goaltender of the Week and Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8. This marks the third time this season Lavelle has captured the award and the second for Levey.

The all-time career wins and saves leader for the Statesmen, Lavelle had a strong weekend, grabbing 51 saves to lead Hobart to a pair of crucial league victories over Elmira and Utica. Against the Soaring Eagles on Friday night, he had 21 stops in a 5-2 Statesmen victory, their fourth consecutive against Elmira. He continued his outstanding play the following afternoon, stopping 30 of Utica’s 32 shots. For the weekend Lavelle posted a .927 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average, allowing just one power-play goal in 10 chances.

Overall this season, Lavelle is sporting an .873 save percentage and 3.75 goals against average in 18 games. He has turned up his play in league action, stopping nearly 91 percent of the shots and allowing just over three goals a game.

Levey, with tow goals and an assist, led a balanced Statesmen attack that featured eight different goal scorers. The junior captain put Hobart ahead 2-0 over the Eagles with his seventh power-play goal of the season. Two periods later, Levey helped assure a victory, assisting on the Statesmen’s final tally of the game. Less than 24 hours later, he helped Hobart inch closer to securing a spot in the ECAC West Playoffs by netting the game-winner in a 4-2 win over visiting Utica.

For the year, Levey has amassed 29 points on 15 goals and 14 assists and ranks eighth in the nation with seven power-play goals. He leads the league in points (12) and goals (8) in ECAC West contests.

The Statesmen (10-7-5, 4-2-1 ECAC West) need a tie or a win to earn a berth to the conference tournament, while a victory will secure the third seed. Hobart will put their seven game home unbeaten streak to the test when it hosts seventh-ranked Manhattanville on Feb. 13, at 7 p.m.
