Lavelle and Swift capture ECAC weekly awards

February 18, 2004

GENEVA,N.Y.—Hobart College junior Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) and first-year Jonathan Swift (Andover, Mass.) were named the ECAC West Hockey Co-Goaltender and Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively. This is the second consecutive week Lavelle has reaped the award and the first time this season Swift has earned recognition.

Coming off a pair of crucial conference wins the week before, Lavelle turned in another two more stellar performances to keep the Statesmen in the hunt for the regular season crown. On Friday against Manhattanville, he grabbed 36 saves, including many point-blank chances, to lead Hobart to a 4-3 upset victory over the seventh-ranked Valiants. The following afternoon, Lavelle relinquished just one goal on 20 shots in a 3-1 win over Neumann College.

For the weekend he stopped 55 of 59 shots for a .923 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average, improving his season totals to .879 and 3.56, respectively.

Swift paced the Hobart offense this past weekend with two goals and two assists for a team-best four points. In the Statesmen’s upset win over Manhattanville, he assisted on a pair of goals, including the game-winner late in the second period. The next day, the rookie winger grabbed the reigns and led Hobart to a victory over Neumann with a pair of goals. He tallied his first short-handed score midway through the final session for the game-winner, and iced the victory with an empty net goal.

Swift’s two goals against the Knights is the winger’s first career multiple goal performance. He ranks fourth overall on the team in scoring with six goals and nine assists and seventh among all rookies in the conference.

The Statesmen will put their eight-game home unbeaten streak to the test on Feb. 21, hosting No. 10 RIT at 4 p.m. A win by Hobart and a loss or tie by Manhattanville in one of their remaining games will give the Statesmen the league title and the top seed in the conference tournament.
