February 19, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y. For the second straight week Hobart College hockey player Adam Lavelle (Bridgton Academy/Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named the ECAC West Goaltender of the Week. Fellow Statesmen Craig Levey (Mississauga Chargers/Mississauga, Ontario) and R.C. Schmidt (Army/Buxton, Maine) earned spots on the leagues Honor Roll. Lavelle stopped 57 of 59 shots he faced last week and earned two more victories. In Hobarts 4-2 win over Utica College on Feb. 13, he made 40 saves, including 22 in the third period to help the Statesmen clinch a playoff spot. Three days later against Manhattanville, the first-year stopped all 17 shots he faced to record his first collegiate shutout and set the Hobart single-season record for goalie wins with 10. Lavelle has posted respectable numbers this season with a .904 save percentage and a goals against average of 3.53, but has been outstanding against league opponents. Against ECAC West foes, the goaltender is 5-2-0 with a goals against average of 2.47 and .923 save percentage. Levey played a major role in the Statesmen's success this week. The first-year forward scored three goals and assisted on three others in the two victories. He assisted on two goals against the Pioneers before breaking out with a hat trick and an assist in the 7-0 rout of the Valiants. His three goals against Manhattaville included his team-leading sixth power-play goal, third game-winner, and 13th goal. Leveys 27 points are the most by a Hobart first-year since Travis Finkle 00 recorded 47 during the 1996-97 campaign. Schmidt recorded five points in the games against Utica and Manhattanville. The sophomore forward netted two power-play goals and assisted on three other tallies. He scored a goal against the Pioneers and followed it up with a goal and three assists against Manhattanville. Schmidt leads Hobart scorers with 29 points (10-19-29) and is tied with Levey for the lead in power-play goals. The Statesmen (10-14-0, 5-4-0 ECAC West) will look to continue their three-game winning streak at Elmira on Feb. 23. The contest, originally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. On Nov. 10, the Soaring Eagles (16-7-0, 7-1-0 ECAC West) escaped the Geneva Recreation Complex with an 8-5 victory.
