Lavelle, McVey earn ECAC weekly honors

Adam Lavelle

November 26, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Eastern College Athletic Conference recently named Hobart College sophomore Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) and first-year forward Colby McVey (Chicago, Ill.) as its hockey Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. This marks the second time both Lavelle and McVey earned the respective awards after earning the honors on Nov. 5, after winning the Buffalo State Tournament.

The Statesmen improved to 6-4-0 overall this past week after beating Fredonia 2-1 and Cortland State 7-1, before falling to 11th-ranked Potsdam 4-3.

Lavelle played well in between the pipes for Hobart, posting 80 saves in three games for a .930 save percentage. Stopping 31 of the 32 Blue Devil shots, he protected the Statesmen’s 2-0 lead before allowing a power-play goal in the closing 44 seconds of the game. The sophomore goalie mirrored that performance a few days later making 26 saves in Hobart’s 7-1 trouncing of the Red Dragons. Just 24 hours later, Lavelle gloved 23 stops against the Potsdam Bears. Sporting a .900 save percentage, he has started every game for the Statesmen, racking up 225 saves.

McVey notched two goals and two assists on the week moving to third on the team with nine points. He scored a goal and assisted on the game-winner against the Red Dragons, and recorded his third goal and sixth assist versus the Bears. McVey leads all rookies with nine points in as many games.

Junior forward R.C. Schmidt (Buxton, Maine) was named to the ECAC’s Weekly Honor Roll after his four-point performance. He netted a goal in each of Hobart’s victories, and posted his fifth and sixth assists of the season in the Statesmen’s loss to Potsdam. Schmidt is second in scoring on the team with four goals and six assists for 10 points.

The Statesmen do not play again until Dec. 4, when they travel to Manhattanville at 7 p.m.
