GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) was recently named the ECAC West Hockey Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Collecting the award for the fourth time since Jan. 13, Levey has earned the honor more than any other player in the conference.

Netting his 17th and 18th goals of the season, Levey led Hobart to a 5-3 victory over 11th-ranked Elmira College for the second time this season and a 4-4 tie with Utica College. Posting just their third win in 42 meetings with the Soaring Eagles, the Statesmen fell behind 1-0 just 57 seconds into the game. Seven minutes later Levey assisted on a Will Bodine (North Massapequa, N.Y.) goal that sent Hobart on a five-goal run. Sporting a 3-1 lead at the first intermission, Levey would put the game out of the Soaring Eagles’ reach scoring the game-winner just 4:40 into the second period.

The previous night against conference rival Utica, Levey provided a goal and an assist in the Statesmen’s draw with the Pioneers. His 11 goals in nine conference games is two more than any other player in the ECAC West.

First-year William Brame (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore goaltender Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) were both named to the honor roll after their solid weekend performances. Brame posted two assists in Hobart’s upset victory over Elmira, while scoring his third career goal in the Statesmen’s tie with Utica. The rookie center has notched three goals and five assists this season.

Lavelle grabbed 33 saves in Hobart’s win against Elmira to earn his 24th career victory, surpassing Gabe Halleus ’92 to become the all-time winningest goalie in Hobart hockey history. Against the Pioneers Lavelle recorded 11 saves for 44 on the weekend, moving him into third on the career saves list with 1,324.

Posting a 14-8-2 overall record, 4-4-1 in the ECAC West the Statesmen currently sit in third place in the conference standings. With the top four teams earning a bid to the conference tournament, Hobart will have to wait and see how the regular season plays out to learn its fate. The Statesmen can secure a spot in the tournament with a win over RIT and a Utica loss or two losses by the Pioneers in their final four games.

Pacing Hobart on offense is Levey with 18 goals and 14 assists, while first-years Colby McVey (Chicago, Ill.) and Edward Poirier (Methuen, Mass.) have contributed 24 and 19 points, respectively, this season. Defensively the Statesmen rank 19th in the country in scoring defense, allowing just three goals per game. Lavelle sports a .888 save percentage and a 2.99 goals against average this year.

Hobart hits the ice again on Feb. 28, when it travels to RIT for its final regular season game. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
