Manhattanville skates past Hobart

November 9, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team suffered its first ECAC West loss, falling to Manhattanville 5-2 at the Geneva Recreation Complex. The Statesmen fall to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in ECAC West play.

Valiants’ sophomore forward Wade Richardson (Calgary, Alberta) opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first period. Down by one at the first intermission, the Statesmen gave up power-play goals by Tyler Resch (Medicine Hat, Alberta) and Mike Camarinos (Jericho, N.Y.) and an even-handed score from Dave Schmalenberg (Regina, Saskatchewan) in the second session, falling behind 4-0.

Manhattanville defenseman Jordan Chorneyko (St. Albert, Alberta) made it five nothing with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Hobart battled back later in the period to score two goals of its own. First-year Edward Poirier (Methuen, Mass.) notched his third goal of the season on a power play with 10 minutes remaining, while sophomore Craig Levey (Mississauga, Ontario) netted his fourth goal of the weekend on an extra man score with just two minutes left in the game.

Sophomore goalie Adam Lavelle (Chelmsford, Mass.) grabbed 13 saves in 57 minutes for the Statesmen, while first-year Jay Chrapala (Hamilton, Ontario) made 25 stops on the evening.

The Statesmen return to action when they travel to Cortland on Nov. 12. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
