November 19, 2003 After being held scoreless in a 2-2 tie with Utica on Friday, Schmidt exploded for his first career hat trick the following evening, helping Hobart to an 8-5 victory over then 13th-ranked Elmira. The Statesmen fell behind 2-0 halfway through the opening period, but Schmidt cut the lead in half with his first goal of the season with six minutes remaining. The senior captain got on the board again, scoring what proved to be the game-winner at the 17:34 mark. He added an insurance goal early in the third period to earn the hat trick. Sporting a 2-1-2 overall record and 1-0-1 in ECAC West play, the Statesmen are third in the conference behind undefeated Manhattanville and RIT. Hobart returns to home ice, hosting Potsdam State on Nov. 21, at 7 p.m., at the Geneva Recreation Complex. |
