August 28, 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College Ice Hockey Head Coach Mark Taylor announced this afternoon the appointment of Jason Lammers to serve as the Statesmen's assistant coach for the 2001-02 season. Lammers replaces Neil Donovan, who departed after one season to pursue a playing career in professional hockey. "Jason will be an excellent addition to our staff," Taylor said. "His knowledge as a former player, coupled with his Division I coaching experience, makes him an exceptional mentor and role model for our student-athletes." Last season as an assistant coach, Lammers, 25, helped guide Division I Clarkson University to a 21-11-3 overall record. The Golden Knights posted a 15-5-2 mark in the ECAC, finishing atop the league's regular season standings. "It is Hobart's good fortune to attract a person of Jason's character," Clarkson Head Coach Mark Morris said. "During his time at Clarkson, he was a valuable member of the program. Without question, he will be an outstanding coach and recruiter." Prior to moving to Potsdam, he played two seasons in the West Coast Hockey League with the Idaho Steelheads and the Phoenix Mustangs. Following his first professional season, the Boise-area media voted him the Steelheads' most improved player. His Phoenix Mustangs won the 1999-2000 Taylor Cup Championship. A native of Pittsburgh, Lammers played four season for the Geneseo State Ice Knights. A 1998 second-team All-SUNYAC selection, he was Geneseo's captain his senior year and was voted "Best Defenseman" and "Players' Player" by his teammates. A Dean's List student and a member of Phi Alpha Theta (honorary history
fraternity), Lammers graduated from Geneseo in 1998 with a bachelor's
degree in history, and is pursuing a graduate degree in instructional
technology and media management at SUNY-Potsdam. |
