March 21, 2003 GLOUCESTER, Mass.Hobart College Head Coach Mark Taylor was recently named one of eleven finalists for the Edward Jeremiah Award, given annually to the top NCAA Division III Mens Ice Hockey coach. He recently earned ECAC West Coach of the Year honors for his success in 2002-03. In his third season at the helm, Taylor guided the Statesmen to a 14-10-2 record, their first winning season since 1992-93 and just one win shy of tying the all-time mark set by the 1978-79 squad. The 2002-03 teams .600 winning percentage for the regular season is the highest ever in Hobart history, while Taylors .429 career winning percentage (30-41-6) with the Statesmen ranks second all-time. Sporting a 4-5-1 conference record, Hobart swept the season series with eventual ECAC West Tournament Champion Elmira College for the first time in school history, earning the Statesmen a spot in the conference tournament for the second consecutive year. He also guided Hobart to four victories over ranked opponents and a record six-game unbeaten streak. Named in honor of the former Dartmouth head coach, the Jeremiah Award
will be presented at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach of
the Year Banquet on April 26, in Naples, Fla. |
