July 30, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College Hockey Head Coach Mark Taylor was one of 12 hockey bosses selected to lead the annual USA Hockey Select 14 Player Development Camp this past week at the ESL Ice Centre in Rochester. The camp, which ran from July 19 through July 25, featured approximately 250 of the best 14-year olds in the nation. Taylor led one of the 12 teams in daily practices and games. In his third season at the helm of the Statesmen, Taylor guided Hobart to a 14-10-2 record, their first winning season since 1992-93 and just one win shy of tying the all-time mark set by the 1978-79 squad. The 2002-03 teams .600 winning percentage for the regular season is the highest ever in Hobart history, while Taylors .429 career winning percentage (30-41-6) with the Statesmen ranks second all-time. Sporting a 4-5-1 conference record, Hobart swept the season series with eventual ECAC West Tournament Champion Elmira College for the first time in school history, earning the Statesmen a spot in the conference tournament for the second consecutive year. Talyor also guided Hobart to four victories over ranked opponents and a record six-game unbeaten streak. Taylor was named the 2002-03 ECAC West Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Edward Jeremiah Award, the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year award. |
