Three Statesmen earn ECAC West honors

October 29, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.–Three Hobart College hockey players were recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference after a second place finish at the Rochester Hockey Cup. First-year center Craig Levey (Mississauga Chargers/Mississauga, Ontario) was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week, while sophomore defenseman Trevor Gowan (Shenendehowa/Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and first-year goalie Adam Lavelle (Bridgton Academy/Chelmsford, Mass.) earned spots on the honor roll.

Levey scored two goals and assisted on two others in the Statesmen's season-opening 7-4 victory over SUNY-Geneseo in the first round. The center also assisted on Hobart's lone goal in a loss to second-ranked RIT in the championship game. Levey was the only rookie to earn a spot on the Rochester Hockey Cup All-Tournament team.

Gowan's strong defensive play helped the Statesmen earn a split over the weekend. The sophomore was plus three for the weekend and also contributed an assist in the win over the Blue Knights. Gowan was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Lavelle stopped 88 of the 99 shots he faced this weekend. The goalie made 37 saves to earn the win against Geneseo in his first collegiate start. Lavelle stopped 51 shots the following night against the Tigers.

The Statesmen (1-1) travel to SUNY-Cortland (2-0) on Oct. 30, to face the Red Dragons at 7 p.m. Hobart defeated Cortland 4-2 in Geneva last season.
