GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Lacrosse Head Coach Matt Kerwick ’90 will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at the 2006 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship in Canada, US Lacrosse announced today.
Kerwick, along with Denison University Head Coach Mike Caravana and University of Albany Head Coach Scott Marr, will assist Syracuse University Head Coach John Desko.
In his fourth season at his alma mater, Kerwick has led the Statesmen to the NCAA Tournament twice, while capturing the 2002 Patriot League championship. Last season, Hobart posted a 9-7 record under Kerwick’s watch, the most wins by the program since elevating to Division I in 1995. Over the past three seasons, he has mentored 16 All-Patriot League selections.
Including head coaching stops at Alfred University and Randolph-Macon College, Kerwick sports a 72-54 (.571) career record.
Player tryouts will be held June 13-16, 2005, at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Information concerning player applications will be posted to the US Lacrosse Web site (www.uslacrosse.org) in the near future.
The 2006 ILF World Championship will be held in London, Ontario, July 13-22. The U.S. has won six consecutive world championships and eight of the nine ILF championships held since 1967. The only time the U.S. has lost in ILF outdoor championship play was the 1978 final against Canada.
