GENEVA, N.Y.—For the second season in a row, Hobart College senior defenseman Greg McCarthy (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) has earned All-America honorable mention from the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation. He is the first Statesman to earn back-to-back All-America honors since Hobart moved to Division I in 1995.

The first Hobart player to earn a spot on the Tewaaraton Award preseason watch list, McCarthy started all 56 games he played in over the past four seasons. Since arriving on campus, he has been tasked with negating the opposition’s top scoring threat. McCarthy collected 29 ground balls this season, raising his career total to 114. He picked up a season-high four ground balls against Fairfield on April 2, and again at Loyola on April 30.

Earlier this month, McCarthy earned second-team All-ECAC Lacrosse League honors. The four-year starter was a first-team All-Patriot League pick in 2004. McCarthy is one of an elite few invited to tryout for the 2006 U.S. National Team next month.

Hobart finished the season with a 7-7 record and placed fifth in the ultra-competitive ECAC Lacrosse League, which sent its top three teams to this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Including McCarthy, Statesmen have been named to the USILA All-America teams 249 times.
