GENEVA, N.Y.—Two recent Hobart College graduates, defenseman Greg McCarthy ’05 (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) and midfielder Chris Scanlon ’05 (Corning West/Painted Post, N.Y.), were named to the North roster of the 64th Annual North-South Senior All-Star Game on June 11, at the SUNY-Cortland Stadium Complex. The duo raises the total number of Statesmen to earn a spot in the North-South game to 100.

The first two-time All-American at Hobart since the program moved to Division I in 1995, McCarthy is also the first Hobart player to earn a spot on the Tewaaraton Award preseason watch list. He started all 56 games he played in over the past four seasons. Since arriving on campus, McCarthy was tasked with neutralizing the opposition’s top scoring threat. He collected 29 ground balls this season, raising his career total to 114. He picked up a season-high four ground balls against Fairfield on April 2, and again at Loyola on April 30. McCarthy earned second-team All-ECAC Lacrosse League honors in 2005 following first-team All-Patriot League praise in 2004. He is one of an elite few invited to tryout for the 2006 U.S. National Team next week.

Scanlon was an exceptional all-around midfielder for the Statesmen. He scored 46 goals, assisted on 16 others, and picked up 69 ground balls in 50 career games. Scanlon recorded career-highs in goals (17), assists (9), and points (26) this season, finishing fifth on the team in scoring. He scored at least one point in every game this season and notched at least one goal in 11 straight contests to end the season, including a season-high four goals and two assists against Syracuse on March 29.

Hobart finished the season with a 7-7 record and placed fifth in the ultra-competitive ECAC Lacrosse League, which sent its top three teams to this year’s NCAA Tournament.
