Time Warner Sports to televise Statesmen-Orange lacrosse clash

March 16, 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—Time Warner Sports of Central New York will air the March 29, Hobart-Syracuse lacrosse game live on Time Warner Sports, channel 26. Faceoff for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy is scheduled for 7 p.m., on McCooey Field.

Time Warner Sports will rebroadcast the game at 4:30 p.m., on March 30, and again at 7:30 p.m., on March 31.

“This year more than ever, lacrosse is making inroads into television as people become more aware of what a great game this is,” Hobart Head Coach Matt Kerwick '90 said. “We’re proud to be a part of that growth and excited that our alums across the country and around the world will get to see this great rivalry.”

This season marks the 20th meeting between the Statesmen and the Orange for the Kraus-Simmon Trophy. Originally contested in 1986, the trophy honors National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Hobart Coach Babe Kraus and longtime Syracuse boss Roy Simmons Sr. The Statesmen captured the initial victory, but the Orange have secured the cup every year since.

Overall, the two schools have met 90 times since 1916, with the Orange holding a 64-24-2 record.

Hobart is 4-0 for the first time since 1998. The 16th-ranked Statesmen return to action at 1 p.m., on March 19, when fifth-ranked Georgetown visits McCooey Field.
