GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior goalie Dan Valente (Mt. Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 27. He led the Statesmen to a season-opening 11-7 victory over Butler University on Feb. 26, in Brooklandville, Md.
Valente posted a career-high 19 saves against the Bulldogs. During one particularly effective stretch in the first half, he bewildered Butler for nearly 20 minutes. In the fourth quarter with the Bulldogs threatening to climb back into the contest, Valente made seven of his 19 stops.
Red-shirt junior midfielder Nate Molinari (Oswego/Oswego, N.Y.) and first-year midfielder Sean Murphy (Bishop Timon-St. Jude/Buffalo, N.Y.) earned a spot on the ECAC Lacrosse League’s Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts against Butler. Molinari scored on all three of his shots against the Bulldogs and picked up five ground balls, while Murphy made a splash in his Statesmen debut, scoring two goals, including the game-winner, and setting up a third tally.
The Statesmen will open the home portion of their 2005 schedule at 1 p.m., on March 5, when Binghamton University visits McCooey Field. Tickets are $5 for adults, children (under 12) are $1. Hobart and William Smith students, faculty, and staff are free with proper ID.
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca). For those outside of the WEOS broadcast area, live online statistics and streaming audio will be available via the Hobart lacrosse Web site.
