Veltman scores pair of weekly awards; Statesmen move up to 17th in media poll
March 8, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College first-year attackman Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario) captured a pair of weekly honors after turning in a five-point effort in the Statesmen’s win over Binghamton on Saturday. Veltman was selected as the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week and was named the Rochester Area Colleges Athletics (RACA) Tri-Male Athlete of the Week as well.
Making his home debut, Veltman scored three goals and assisted on two others to lead Hobart to a 10-7 victory over the Bearcats. He jump-started the Statesmen offense, assisting on Hobart’s first goal just 28 seconds into the contest and notching a goal of his own just 16 seconds later. Veltman leads all Statesmen scorers with six points (4-2).
Starting the season with wins over Butler and Binghamton, the Statesmen moved up to 17th in this week’s Inside Lacrosse media poll. Johns Hopkins is tops with 17 first-place votes, while Virginia and Navy round out the top three, respectively. Hobart also is ranked 17th in the coaches poll.
The Statesmen will hit the road for their next contest, traveling to Ohio State (1-2) on March 12. Faceoff is slated for noon.
