GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart first-year attackman Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Rookie of the Week by the conference office. This is the third time this season Veltman has earned that award.
Veltman scored five goals and assisted on five others in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. In a 12-6 win over Canisius on April 26, he recorded a game-high six points (3-3). His three goals against the Golden Griffins raised his season total to 25, breaking the Hobart Division I record by a first-year (previously 24).
Four days later at Loyola, Veltman was again the game’s leading scorer, this time with four points. He leads Hobart in goals (27), assists (21), and points (48) this season. Only two Statesmen in the 103-season history of Hobart lacrosse have scored more points as first-years. Veltman’s points total is also a record for a Division I Statesman (since 1995).
Hobart (7-6) will close out the regular season at third-ranked Cornell at 7 p.m. on May 6. The oldest rivalry in collegiate lacrosse, the Statesmen and the Big Red will tangle for the 125th time.
