Hobart lacrosse to host Binghamton in home-opener

March 4, 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team will host Binghamton University in its 2005 home-opener tomorrow, March 5, on McCooey Field at 1 p.m. Admission to the game will be free.

The Statesmen (1-0) are coming off an 11-7 season-opening win over Butler University last weekend at St. Paul’s School in Brooklandville, Md. Junior Nate Molinari (Oswego/Oswego, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris David (Georgetown Prep/Silver Springs, Md.) tallied three goals apiece, while first-year Sean Murphy (Bishop Timon-St. Jude/Buffalo, N.Y.) added a pair of scores and an assist in the victory.

Molinari and Murphy both earned a spot on the ECAC Lacrosse League’s Honor Roll for their efforts.

Senior goaltender Dan Valente (Mount Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high 19 saves against the Bulldogs, including seven in the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats (0-1) come to Geneva after losing at Villanova, 5-2, in their first game of the 2005 season. In just their fourth varsity season, Binghamton returns nine starters, including All-America goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster/Brewster, N.Y.) from last year’s squad that was 10-6 overall and 6-0 in the America East.

Hobart will hit the road for its next two games, traveling to Ohio State (March 12) and Robert Morris (March 15). The Statesmen return home on March 19, hosting Georgetown at 1 p.m.
