Hobart lacrosse announces 2007 captains
November 1, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Lacrosse Head Coach Matt Kerwick recently announced that senior Chris Keough (Hicksville/Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior Sean Murphy (Bishop Timon-St. Jude/Buffalo, N.Y.) will serve as co-captains for the 2007 season.
“Chris and Sean will do a great job leading our team this year,” Kerwick said. “Chris has started since Day 1 and is a vocal and intense leader of our defense. Sean is one of the fiercest competitors I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. He leads by example, on and off the field. There is a great deal of excitement leading into the 2007 season, and these two are a big part of that excitement.”
Keough started all 14 games last year, and has played in 41 games over his career. A talented defender, Keough has tallied 119 ground balls over the past three seasons, including 45 last year, and is responsible for three goals.
An offensive leader, Murphy ranked fourth on the team in scoring last spring, totaling 14 goals and seven assists. He played in all 14 games and collected 34 ground balls. Murphy has recorded 29 points (21 goals, 8 assists) over two seasons.
Hobart wrapped up fall practice in the Pumpkin Stickout hosted by Syracuse on Oct. 14. The Statesmen posted a 2-1 record in the four-team round robin competition, beating the Orange and LeMoyne.
Hobart returns 17 veterans and five starters for the 2007 season. The Statesmen will open their schedule on Feb. 18 when they travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange in the Carrier Dome at 1 p.m.
