Hobart lacrosse introduces Class of 2010

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Lacrosse Head Coach Matt Kerwick ’90 recently welcomed 13 newcomers to campus. One of only three men’s lacrosse programs in the country to have 700 wins, the Statesmen brought in a deep and talented class.
“We are pleased to announce our class of 2010,” Kerwick said. “One of the reasons we joined the top league in collegiate lacrosse, the ECAC, was so we could attract some of the best student-athletes in the country to Hobart College. With continued commitment and hard work, this class will enable us to compete for an ECAC championship over the next few seasons. We are excited because they are not only talented lacrosse players but they come from some of the best high school programs in the country and many were captains and leaders of those teams.”
Defenseman Neal Brown from Landon School in Bethesda, Md. Brown earned first-team All-Gazzette and Defensemen of the Year honors for one of the top programs in high school lacrosse. He was part of two IAC championship teams as a sophomore and junior.
Midfielder Tyler Cassell from the Salisbury School in Salisbury, Conn. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder made All-American and first-team All-New England as a senior for one the top prep school programs in the Northeast. The Geneva native finished his senior season with 22 points along with 56 ground balls.
Attackman Kevin Curtin from Corcoran High School in Syracuse. Corcoran’s all time leading scorer with 243 career points, Curtin earned national All-Academic honors and first-team All- Central New York accolades as a senior. The three-time first-team All-League pick finished his senior campaign with 36 goals and 36 assists.
Defeseman Adam Delpreore from Moorestown High School in Moorestown, N.J. Delpreore finished a tremendous high school career by earning first-team All-State honors. The four-time All-South Jersey selection picked up 73 ground balls and added nine assists as a senior.
Goalie Curtis Gibbs from Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine, and St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass. An All-American as a senior at St. John’s Prep, the Eastern Mass All-Star started for Bridgton Academy last spring as a post-graduate.
Attackman Daniel Keegan from Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md. Ranked as the top program in the country in 2006 by Inside Lacrosse, Keegan started for the IAC champion Little Hoyas. He finished his senior year with 27 goals and 11 assists.
Midfielder Lex Kridler from Upper Arlington High School in Upper Arlington, Ohio. A three-time state champion for the Bears, Kridler was one of the top faceoff men in Ohio as a junior and senior. He earned All-MWSLA honors finishing his junior and senior year with a faceoff winning percentage over 70 percent.
Midfielder Michael Lazore from Immaculate Heart Central High School in Watertown. Lazore (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) was a three sport standout at IHC, quarterbacking the football team to a Section III Championship, and serving as a captain of both the basketball team and lacrosse teams. Lazore was All-Frontier league as a sophomore, junior, and senior for the lacrosse team. He also earned first-team All-Central New York as a senior. A member of the silver medal winning Empire State Games team in 2005, Lazore finished his senior year with 53 points.
Defenseman Garrett O’Neill from Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in Buffalo. Earned All-American, All-Western New York, and All-Catholic League honors as a senior playing both long-stick middie and close defense for the league champions last spring. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder competed for the gold medal winning Western hockey team in the 2005 Empire State Games. He finished the 2005 lacrosse season with 107 ground balls.
Attackman Doug Shiver from Delbarton High School in N.J. A three-time New Jersey State champion on one of the top lacrosse programs in the country, Shiver finished his senior year with 33 goals and 27 assists, earning All-Conference honors for the State Champion Green Wave.
Goalie Max Silberlecht from New Hartford High School in New Hartford. After a break out season as a senior, Silberlecht earned All-League and All-Central New York honors. He led New Hartford to the Section III championship in the spring, finishing the year with 311 saves and boasting a career save percentage of 71 percent. Silberlecht also set a school record with 26 career shutouts as the goalie for the state champion soccer team.
Midfielder Mike Suits from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse. A starting linebacker on the Section 3 Champion football team, Suits was All-League in both football and lacrosse as a junior and senior. Elected team captain as a senior, CBA won Section III and advanced to the state championship game last spring. Also a member of the silver medal winning Empire State Games team in 2005, he finished his senior year with 50 goals and 30 assists.
Midfielder Jared Wood from The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, Mass. Wood played both attack and midfield for the ISL championship team. Battling through injuries as a junior, Jared made the All-League team as a sophomore and a senior.
The Statesmen begin their 105th varsity season on Feb. 17, in the Carrier Dome against Syracuse. Hobart opens the home portion of its schedule on March 3, when the Binghamton Bearcats visit McCooey Field.
