GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart attackman Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario) was named to the All-ECAC Lacrosse League second team this afternoon in a vote of the League’s coaches. The 2005 ECAC Rookie of the Year ranked in the top 10 in the conference in goals and points this season.

A starter in 13 games, Veltman led the Statesmen with 22 goals and 31 points, ranking seventh and 10th in the League respectively. He also led Hobart in game-winning goals (2), extra-man goals (4), and short-handed goals (1, one of only two scored by ECAC players this season). Veltman matched his career-high with eight points (5-3) in Hobart’s win at Canisius on April 18. He enjoyed eight multi-point games this season, including six multi-goal games.

Veltman recorded at least one goal in his first 20 collegiate games and notched at least one point in his first 21 contests. Overall, he has posted at least one point in 26 of 27 games.

The sophomore is quickly climbing Hobart’s scoring charts. Among Division I Statesmen, he ranks seventh in career assists (31), eighth in career goals (50), and eighth in career points (81). In fact, since Hobart moved to Division I in 1995, only one other Statesman has scored 50 goals in his first two seasons, Nathan Roost ’98 (54).

Hobart finished the season with a 6-8 overall record. The Statesmen’s 12-7 win over St. John’s on April 22 was the 700th in the program’s 104 varsity seasons. Only two other programs have reached that lofty plateau, Johns Hopkins and Syracuse universities.
