GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team continues to hold some of the top spots in the NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse statistical categories.

Junior attackman Jamie Kirk (Salisbury School/Orangeville, Ontario) leads the nation in assists per game with 3.1. He has 31 helpers so far this season, tied for 17th on Hobart’s all-time single season list with Larry Adkinson ’62, Roy McAdam ’80, Bill Miller ’91, and Jeff Tambroni ’92. Kirk is the first Statesman to crack the top 20 since 1993.

Together with classmate Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario), Kirk is half of one of the most prolific scoring tandems in the nation. Kirk is eighth nationally in points per game (4.1), while Veltman ranks 16th (3.60). Only three other pairs of players have combined for more points this season. Veltman, who has scored 18 goals off assists from Kirk, ranks fifth in Division I in goals per game (2.90).

At the other end of the field, senior long-stick midfielder Matt Ranaghan (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and sophomore defensive midfielder Matt Smalley (Avon Old Farms/Cumberland, R.I.) rank eighth and ninth in the country, respectively, in ground balls per game. Ranaghan has picked up 5.80 per game, while Smalley has collected 5.70.

Additionally, junior faceoff specialist Dan Spinella (New Hartford/New Hartford, N.Y.) ranks 25th in faceoff winning percentage. He has won 117 of 218 (53.7%) at the X.

As a team, Hobart ranks fourth in man-up offense, scoring 14 extra man goals on 28 attempts, and is eighth in scoring offense, averaging 11.40 goals per game. The Statesmen also hold the 19th spot in faceoff winning percentage, succeeding on 133 of 250 as a team.

Hobart (4-6, 1-4 ECAC) will be in action again on April 21 when it travels to St. John’s for an ECAC Lacrosse League contest at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3) and online.
