GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College first-year faceoff specialist Lex Kridler (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week today by the conference office.
Kridler was 10-of-19 at the faceoff X in a 1-1 week for the Statesmen. In Hobart’s 11-10 win over Canisius on April 24, he won 10-of-18 faceoffs and collected two ground balls. Kridler has played in four games this season, winning 11-of-20 at the X.
In the latest NCAA statistics report, the Statesmen are third in the nation in extra-man offense (.553), 10th in scoring offense (11.15 gpg), and 23rd in faceoff winning percentage (.514).
Individually, junior attackman Jamie Kirk (Salisbury School/Orangeville, Ontario) continues to lead the nation in assists, averaging 2.85 per game. He’s leads the ECAC and is 10th in the country in points (3.77 ppg). Classmate Daryl Veltman (Salisbury School/Georgetown, Ontario) sits atop the ECAC and is 10th in Division I in goals (3.77).
Hobart has an ECAC best 464 ground balls thanks in large part to the efforts of senior long-stick midfielder Matt Ranaghan (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and sophomore defensive midfielder Matt Smalley (Avon Old Farms/Cumberland, R.I.). The pair shares the team lead with 72 GBs and are tied for 10th in the nation (5.54).
The Statesmen (5-8) will close out the regular season at top-ranked Cornell on May 4. The in-state rivals will meet for the 127th time, the oldest rivalry in collegiate lacrosse. The game will air live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) and online at www.weos.org.
