GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team is putting its collective shoulder behind America Supporting Americans, an organization that matches groups with U.S. military units serving overseas. The Statesmen will correspond with and send care packages to the Marines of Fox Company, 1st Platoon.
“We’re honored to be a part of the America Supporting Americans program, and specifically fostering Fox Company, 1st Platoon,” Hobart Head Coach Matt Kerwick said. “Their platoon leader, 2nd Lt. Nick Delonga, was an All-American lacrosse player for Coach T.W. Johnson at Limestone and I had the good pleasure of coaching him in the North-South game a few years ago. We are safer because of people like Nick and the team is excited to support the service men and women who sacrifice so much for the well-being of us all at home.”
Founded in 1967, America Supporting Americans is a non-profit organization that links individual units in all branches of the military with groups, businesses, and communities across the country.
Hobart is one of 25 lacrosse teams nationwide, including Bucknell, Brown, Cornell, Duke, Ohio State, and the Air Force Academy, to throw its support behind America Supporting Americans. The Statesmen and Big Red will square off in the regular season finale for both teams on May 4, when Hobart travels to Schoellkopf Field. Faceoff for the 127th meeting between the schools is scheduled for 7 p.m.
